Another innovative program offered at PAL is our “Baby
Think It Over” (BTIO). We are pleased to
be collaborating with EOC Teen Connection and BTIO coordinator, Gilda
Arreguin. This abstinence based 4-week course explores the emotional, financial,
and social consequences of becoming a teen parent. It is an educational program for youth
between the ages of 12 to 14 years. When
they have completed the 8th session, they will take the simulated infant home
for the weekend. This baby is equipped
with a devise that will monitor the care that the baby received during the time
it was with the student. We feel that
this program delivers a realistic glimpse into the life of a teen parent. Over 100 youth have participated in BTIO,
and the overwhelming consensus is that the program made them think differently
about teen parenting and it has helped them to realize they have to make
"smart choices" for their future.
